Building Homes for Today and Hope for
Tomorrow
2008 Youth Summer Mission Trip
Our youth and chaperones have returned home safely after
working with The United Methodist Relief
Center (UMCOR) in Mt. Pleasant, SC from June 1 - 7.
UMCOR is all about
making long-lasting changes in peoples’ lives by repairing and
rehabilitating substandard housing and providing new housing for
very low income families. Watch for photos to be posted soon! |
CONFIRMATION CLASS QUERY
With a new Youth Director in place and an active youth
ministry program underway, we are
well aware that it is time to offer another Confirmation Class for
Cherokee’s teens. If your
teenager (6th-12th grade) has NOT been through a Confirmation Class
yet and would be interested
in participating in a Fall class, just after school begins, please
contact either Michelle
or Brad in person or by e-mail: michelle.buckles@cherokeechurch.com
or brad.parker@cherokeechurch.com.
If we have enough interest spread across the age groups, we may have
to offer 2 classes!
Please discuss this issue as a family and let us know ASAP. |
Need Youth Community Service Hours?
The Johnson City Press is looking for some good young (and
young at heart) people to run our Car Wash for Newspapers In
Education on Saturday, 28 June 2008 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Participating youth receive community service hours equal to the
time that they work the Car Wash. (You “Young At Heart” folks get
soaked and have fun!) The NIE Car Wash is a new part of the Johnson
City Press’ annual NIE Garage Sale, an event that attracts thousands
to downtown Johnson City every year to look, haggle, and buy. All
proceeds from the event go to support the Johnson City Press’
Newspapers In Education program for the coming school year. If you
are interested in helping out and getting wet on a hot June
Saturday, please contact Chris Ostermeyer at eostermeyer@johnsoncitypress.com,
or by phone at 926-2238. |
The Annual Youth Plant
Sale!
Thanks to all that helped out with the Plant
Sale on Saturday, May 3.
Proceeds from this fundraiser support Youth Missions and
Ministry. Special thanks Judith Robertson for all her hard work that
contributed to the success of this event.
