Sunday School OpportunitiesSunday School is an important time for all ages. We have Sunday School classes for ages three-adult. There are two nurseries available during Sunday School for children younger than three. Sunday School is a time to get to know each other in a more intimate setting than can be achieved in worship. It's also an import time to learn about God, our relationship with Him, and our relationships with each other. We offer a variety of classes, so there is sure to be something that will shiut your style. Come join us on Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:00 as we explore God's Word and get to know one another.
Nurseries At Cherokee The Baby Nursery Location: 9 Main Street
The baby nursery is designed for all babies that are not yet walking on their own. By keeping the non-walking babies in their own space, we can create a safe play environment where your babies can crawl and play without the danger of accidently being stepped on by a new walker.
The Toddler Nursery Location: 7 Main Street Once your child begins to walk consistently on their own, they will be moved up to our toddler nursery. In this nursery, your baby will be free to explore their environment, play, and draw on our chalkboard wall, as well as listen to Bible stories and song. Your child is free to stay in this nursery until they reach 4 years of age.

College and Career Class
The College and Career Class meets at 72 Gallery and is led by Eddie Brittain. This class is geared for those in their 20's and 30's getting their college finished or getting their careers going in full swing. The class is discussion-driven and Bible-based. Whether single, married, or just lookign for a class to get involved in this is the class for those getting their life going in a fun way.
Counterpoint Class
This class meets at 30 Broadway. The class is led by Rosalind Gann. The Methodist Church is one of open hearts and open minds. Counterpoint is a small class in which we explore difficult questions Christians often shy away from. Some examples: arguments for and against the existence of God; the nature of evil and why God allows it; the alternate views of different faiths. We engage in prayer as an expression of our personal journeys in faith. We do not attempt to enforce orthodoxy-- questioning is welcome. We use a variety of texts-- some Christian, some Biblical, some by non-believers and those from other faiths. This is a good class for those who struggle with doubt and desire strong fellowship. It is not the best choice for new Christians and those first exploring Methodist beliefs.
Covenant Class
This class is led by Sam Barnett and meets at 17 Toddler Way. This is a group of young adults who are mostly married couples, many with young children. They enjoy exploring a variety of curriculum that helps them to develop their own faith and strengthen their families.
Fellowship Class
This class meets at 15 Toddler Way. The class is led by Danny Combs and Dave Smith. The Fellowship SS class uses the UMC literature to guide us through old and new testament lessons. Our class attendees include many of the church's Primetimers, but we are not limited to those elite seniors.
Inquirers Class
The Inquirers Class meets at 31 Broadway and is led by Jay Reese. This group of adults study a variety of topics and utilizes many intentional small group methods of discussion and creating safe spaces where everyone has a right and time to speak in a non-confrontational and safe environment.
Jubilee Class
The Jubilee Class is led by Randy Pasqua and is currently meeting at the church on Sunday evenings at 7:00. The Jubilee Class is a class for young adults. The class helps sponsor monthly meals during the school year for the college-aged at Cherokee which includes many Wesley Foundation students. The class enjoys coordinating retreats that include biking, boating or hiking.
Keepers Class
This class meets at 71 Gallery, or sometimes called the security room. The class is led by Phoebe Veerling, Don Hafer, and Dean Wilhoit. The Keepers' Class is a group of about 20 students - married and single, men and women, with no age or stage excluded. At the current time we are mostly over 50 but would be excited to have younger disciples join us. We study the Standard Lesson Commentary, a Bible study that is used by many different denominations, that covers the Bible every four-six years. Three teachers rotate leading the class every two weeks. Come and check us out!
Newcomer Class
The Newcomer Class meets at 3 Main Street and is led by our pastor Michelle Buckles and Lee Robertson. This class is a 4-5 time year, 5-week session class that ?introduces' newcomers, new members and any interested church members or friends to the United Methodist Church in general and the Cherokee United Methodist Church specifically. The class is informal, relational, and interactive and is taught by Lee Robertson, a long-time church member, our pastor, Michelle Buckles, and other pastors in our church. Class topics/content includes but is not limited to: The History, Doctrine, and Organization of the United Methodist Church (generally), the Cherokee UMC (specifically) plus vision that led the congregation to move from its former location on Cherokee Road to our present facility. Additionally, you will meet our church leadership team and hear about the exciting ministry areas in which they do their work. Take a tour or the building, hear exciting plans for our congregational mission/vision for the coming years and decide if you may find a church ?home' here at Cherokee.

Our curriculum varies as much as our participants, as we move from bible study to books to stand-alone single-session discussion topics. This interwoven group of people and ideas makes Tapestry fun and interesting.

Children's Classes Teaching our children about the love of God is very important. We also believe that it is important that you be able to talk with your child about what they learn in Sunday school. It is with this in mind, that we have chosen to use the Faithweaver curriculum.
With Faithweaver all of your children will be studying the same Bible story or principle each week. So, when you get home, all the kids will be talking about the same story, thus allowing a great opportunity for you to reinforce what they learned at Sunday school.
